Puerto Vallarta has drawn Americans and Canadians for decades, some for the winter and some for good. As a result the region has a mature property market, international schools, hospitals and an airport with direct flights to many cities in the US and Canada.
North of the city begins the Riviera Nayarit: Nuevo Vallarta with its marinas and golf courses, exclusive Punta Mita and laid-back Sayulita, loved by surfers. From December to March humpback whales come into the bay.
